Samsung TV is slow, laggy or freezing
Samsung TVs get slower over time as apps build up and software ages. Most slowness can be improved without spending any money.
Restart properly
Switch the TV off, unplug it for one minute and plug back in. This clears the memory and often makes an immediate difference. Do this once a month if your TV feels sluggish.
Update the software
- Press Home, then Settings.
- Go to Support > Software Update > Update Now.
Samsung publishes updates to improve speed and fix bugs.
Clear out apps you do not use
Too many apps can slow the TV. In Apps, use the settings cog at the top and delete apps you never use. Menu options vary by model.
Use the TV's own care tools
Many recent Samsung TVs have a Device Care area under Settings > Support. It may offer a quick scan, or storage and memory options. The exact tools differ between models, so use only what your menu offers and follow the prompts.
Check your internet
Slow loading may be caused by slow Wi-Fi rather than the TV. Test streaming on your phone in the same room. See our Wi-Fi guide for improving the connection. A cable is usually quicker and steadier than Wi-Fi.
Turn off extras you do not need
Some TVs offer extra features such as voice listening or ambient screens. Disabling things you do not use can free up resources, but do this carefully and note what you change.
Factory reset: last resort
A reset can restore speed, but it erases your Wi-Fi, app logins and settings. Only do it if nothing else works. See our factory reset guide first.
When to get more help
If an updated, restarted TV with few apps is still very slow, it may simply be too old to run current apps well. A streaming stick is often a cheaper fix than a new TV. Vision Tech can advise.
