Samsung TV sound out of sync with the picture

Lip sync problems, where speech does not match the mouth, are common with soundbars, Bluetooth speakers and some apps. They are usually fixable.

Find out where it happens

Try several things: live TV, an app such as Netflix and a Blu-ray or box. If only one source is out of sync, the fault is with that source or its settings rather than the TV.

Quick fixes

  1. Switch the TV off and unplug it for a minute.
  2. Do the same for any soundbar or box.
  3. Check for software updates in Settings > Support > Software Update.

Adjust the audio delay

Many Samsung TVs let you adjust the delay. On recent models, look in Settings > Sound > Expert Settings for an option such as Digital Output Audio Delay or Auto Sync. Names and options vary, so look at what your TV shows. If you see a slider, move it in small steps until sound and picture line up. Check your e-Manual if you cannot find it.

Check the output type

Go to Settings > Sound > Sound Output. If you use a soundbar, try changing between HDMI and optical, if your set up allows. Digital sound formats, such as PCM or Dolby, can sometimes change the delay. Try them if your TV offers a choice.

Bluetooth devices

Bluetooth speakers and headphones often have a slight delay. A wired or HDMI connection is usually better for watching TV.

Turn off processing

Some picture processing and Game Mode settings affect timing. If picture effects are on, turning them off, or using Movie mode, can help. See our picture settings guide.

Sky or other boxes

Check the box's own audio settings too. A box set to output a surround format may not suit your TV or soundbar.

When to get more help

If the delay is the same on every source and no setting fixes it, it could be a software or hardware issue. Vision Tech can help you test it, or you can contact Samsung.
